Earth Day Is Every Day

We all live on a magnificent whirling ball of wonders. Our planet houses clouds of migrating butterflies, fresh fruit, giant jellyfish, four seasons, bumblebees and everything else you can imagine. Too often, we do not take in the world around us. Appreciation for the planet is not just a good idea; it should be essential. In the entries detailed below, you will find some ways to celebrate on April 22nd or any day of the week!

Too often, we do not take in the world around us. Appreciation for the planet is not just a good idea; it should be essential. In the entries detailed below, you will find some ways to celebrate on April 22nd or any day of the week!

Put a little energy into scientific endeavors and investigations:

Take the time to teach your children about how the planet works with these two simple experiments that are both designed for a preschooler.

Begin one project by having your son or daughter write their name on a balloon with a permanent black market. Using a funnel, allow them to fill their balloon with one teaspoon sugar and one teaspoon of dry yeast. Add some warm water to each balloon, tie it closed and shake it to mix. Then all you do is place the prepared balloon in the hot sun. You will want to check the balloons every ten minutes to illustrate the effects the components have on one another. If you discover the balloon is too big, it will likely explode.

The other Earth Day option suitable for children is to take your kids outside to investigate the world with a set of binoculars, a magnifying glass and a sketch book.

There is always fund to be found in reusing and recycling:

Save old sneakers to donate to a local shoe recycling program. Heck, find a program like Soles4Souls and host your own shoe drive so your family or office can work toward a collection of 150 lb. of shoes or more.

Repurpose old wood shipping pallets to build a unique planter to commemorate Earth Day, an outdoor coffee table or even a lounge chair made from old pallets.

Put a swap party on the calendar for your friend and neighbors. It is a fantastic way to clear out the old toys, DVD’, games, books and other things your family is not properly using while getting you new amusements to pass the time!

Earth Day gardening projects can be fun for the entire family:

Cultivate an indoor meadow! An indoor meadow can be a fantastic place for any child’s imagination to run wild, particularly on Earth Day.

Allow each family member to plant one special crop in the garden. This crop will belong to just that specific family member, and be theirs to tend and water. Fast-growing plants like radishes, green beans or sugar snap peas are an ideal choice. Please note that all weeding before harvest will need to fall to the specific “farmer” in the family.

Take a little time to enjoy the world around you on April 22nd and all year long! Spend time outside after the sun has gone down. Take a walk in the moonlight, play flashlight games and just find the time to enjoy Earth every day!
